Please review the following steps to download and use the NetApp.Reports-DataCollector utility. This utility collects telemetry data from your NetApp ONTAP system. The utility can be downloaded from NetApp, via the link above, or directly from Red8: NetApp.Reports-DataCollector.

System Requirements

  • Windows:
    • Windows PowerShell 5.1 (with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2+) and PowerShell 7.2+
Troubleshooting

NOTE: If you encounter an error stating “Unable to import the NetAppDocs-Lite module”, you may need to unblock the ZIP file before extracting the contents. Delete the previously extracted files and then unblock the ZIP file by following these steps:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the NetApp.Reports-DataCollector.zip file.
  2. Right-click on the file and select “Properties” from the context menu.
  3. In the Properties window, go to the “General” tab.
  4. At the bottom of the General tab, look for a section labeled “Security.”
  5. If the file is blocked, you will see a message stating “This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.”
  6. Check the box next to “Unblock.”
  7. Click “Apply” and then “OK” to save the changes. Extract the contents of the unblocked file and try rerunning the script.

The utility is self-contained and will install necessary PowerShell modules as needed. Proceed as follows:

  1. Unzip the contents of the downloaded file into a folder called NetApp.Reports-DataCollector. If a previous version exists, overwrite the files.
  2. Within the NetApp.Reports-DataCollector folder and double-click on the ‘win_RunUpdater‘ batch file. Please always perform this step before you run the collection tool.
  3. Double-click on the ‘win_RunDataCollector‘ batch file and follow the onscreen prompts.
    • System Type: ONTAP is the preferred choice; only use FSxN for any AWS instances you have.
    • Collection Profile: Select Full
  4. Enter either the IP address or the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) and credentials of the cluster(s) that you want to collect data from. Hit the ‘+‘ to add additional clusters.
  5. Run ‘Test Connectivity‘ to validate the data entered. Correct or remove, with ‘‘, any entry that is not working.
  6. Once all entries pass the test, start the collection.
  7. The resulting data files will be saved and compressed in the ‘Output‘ subfolder, using the naming convention of ‘NetApp.Reports-DataCollection_yyyymmdd-hhmm.zip‘. Before sending these files to Red8, rename and prefix them with your company name, i.e., ‘Company-NetApp.Reports-DataCollection_yyyymmdd-hhmm.zip‘.
  8. Once you have renamed the files, please send them to Red8. You can either email them to NtapDocsRpts@red8.com or upload them to Red8 Uploads.
